Meet the founder

Hi, I’m Tom, founder of Cyber Pip, a cyber security agency built for startups and growing businesses who want clarity, not complexity.

Before I was in cybersecurity, I served over five years in the Royal Navy, including two major deployments. That time taught me what resilience looks like under pressure, but it also taught me something I didn’t expect, that security tools and systems often fall short because they’re built by people far removed from the realities on the ground.

I saw good tech fail because it didn’t fit the environment. It wasn’t that the ideas were bad, it was that no one had taken the time to understand the people who’d actually use it. That stuck with me.

When I left the Navy, I stepped into cybersecurity consulting, working directly with the Ministry of Defence. I was part of teams implementing security for complex, high stakes projects. Projects that were constantly shifting, evolving, or losing funding. It was in that chaos that I saw a pattern, flexibility wasn’t just useful, it was essential.

And then it hit me, this is what startups deal with every day...

I started this company because I believe cyber security shouldn’t be a black box, or a burden. It should be a strategic advantage. Most founders I talk to think cyber is this intimidating, technical dark art. But it’s not. It’s just been explained poorly. My job is to make it human, aligned with your business goals, and, dare I say it, actually helpful.

I don’t show up to scare you with jargon or flex my knowledge. I show up to make your team feel empowered, your business feel protected, and your future feel a little less uncertain.

So… why “Cyber Pip”?

When I was thinking up a name for this business, I was outside with my dog, Pippin. I looked down, he was sitting, ears perked, looking up at me, completely present and ready to respond. And I thought, That’s what a great cyber consultant should do. Listen first. Really listen. Not just throw frameworks at a business, check a few boxes, and walk away. But pay attention, understand the environment, and respond with what’s actually needed.

That’s the heart of what I do. And that’s why Cyber Pip exists.
